Kids Back to School Outfit Ideas

A working Southern woman who loves welcoming people into her home and throwing dinner parties, Mary Hollis Huddleston is an entertainer extraordinaire! She's all about making it easier on the host/hostess to plan the perfect event.  From iced cookies, invitations, catering to flowers, she shares ideas, inspiration and contacts that will hopefully make your life a bit easier one cocktail party at a time. That's why we thought she'd be the perfect person to share her bliss picks for summer to fall transition. She's all about delegating and making things easier for everyone!

When it comes to clothes for the kids, I love to coordinate their outfits as much as possible (while they will still allow it). This is one of the many reasons I love bella bliss. They make it so easy to mix and match pieces for both my son and daughter that they love to wear and can easily put together on their own.

I’m a big fan of red, white and blue, which is perfect for summers in the South. For every-day play clothes for boys, I love the Striped Pima Polo or Pique Polo in Navy with a pair of the Boy’s Twill Play Shorts. These shorts make it easy for John Albert to run circles around me and feel comfortable while still looking cute.

For girls clothing, I love how bella bliss offers vintage-style outfits that are age appropriate but still stylish. For Georgia, my 8-year-old-daughter, I love the Dauphine Shorts with the Navy Tatiana Pima Blouse. You can never go wrong with ruffles and scallops! We also share a love of tailored denim shorts, and the Joe’s Jeans Tristan Shorts are extra fun with the star appliques.

We pretty much always use bella bliss as our go-to for family photos and special occasions. The Twill Boy’s Slim Pants are perfect for John Albert, and he loves his Navy Soft Check Buttondown Shirt, that’s just like his dad’s collared dress shirts. In cooler months we pair it with a Pima Half Zip with Pocket, and he looks just like a little gentleman.

If I want the kids to match later this year, you bet John Albert will wear the new Plaid Faux Zip Pants with a classic White Buttondown Shirt and the Steel Blue Pima Half Zip with Pocket. Georgia will go crazy for the Highlands Jumper with the Scallop Collar Peter Pan Blouse underneath. We are a bit “mad for plaid” in our family, so this collection of timeless children’s clothing is one of my favorites for sure.

As for the first day of school, my picks would of course be from the “Apple of Your Eye” collection. I especially love the Applique Apple Cardigan over the Applique Toulouse Blouse in Navy Soft Check with the Red Jersey Leggings for girls. For boys, I’d choose the Buttondown Shirt in Navy Soft Check with a pair of the Twill Boys Slim Pants. If my kids were both younger, I’d have to pick the Embroidered Apple Dress and Embroidered Apple Romper. They are too cute!!
